The Astor Home for Children is in Rhinebeck--about 15 minutes from my studio. 80 kids, ages 6-14, supported by incredibly talented and generous teachers, doctors and support staff. All of these kids have lived a challenging life. Astor's goal is simple: "Because every child deserves a childhood."

These images are from our Spring 2012 Exhibition called Paint What You Feel. Instead of asking a kid to paint a bird, I asked him to paint what it felt like to fly. Don't paint a rainbow, paint what it feels like to see a rainbow. From the hardware store in town, came the squeegies, the rollers and the scrapers. I showed them Gerhard Richter's work as inspiration and off they went. Raw emotion released, caught on canvas. Thanks, Gerhard.
