Hudson River Lighthouses

"Enduring both brutal and beautiful seasons, these lighthouses rise elegantly from an estuary. The Hudson is a river of tides. Muhheakantuck, the Mohicans called her, "the river that flows both ways."

Madden's paintings of lighthouses do that too, carrying us at once back in time through the history of the river. And, in the very same painting, with his choice of color and energetic brush work, he races us forward in time, to the now and maybe even beyond. Like the indecisive river, his paintings seem reluctant to let even a moment just slip away."

An ongoing series--paintings and drawings of the eight remaining lighthouses on the Hudson River. A Limited Edition book is also available.
